Biographical Sketch

:people:lumpp.gif Dr. James E. Lumpp, Jr.is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He received the BSEE and MSEE degrees from the School of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University in 1988 and 1989 respectively, and the PhD from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iowa in 1993. He joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky in 1993.

Dr. Lumpp’s research in parallel and distributed systems started in the PASM Parallel Processing Laboratory at Purdue University where he studied run-time performance evaluation of parallel programs. In the late 1980s and early 1990s he studied software instrumentation of parallel programs at the University of Iowa. He joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky in 1993 and founded the Parallel Processing Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was a principle investigator in the Distributed Computing Systems Laboratory and the Laboratory for Advanced Networking. He is an ASTeCC Faculty Affiliate and has participated in several outreach projects for small companies in Kentucky through the Center for Manufacturing Systems in the UK College of Engineering. Dr. Lumpp has also founded and co-founded several successful small companies designing and producing embedded systems technology.

Dr. Lumpp is currently the Director of the Intelligent Dependable Embedded Architectures (IDEA) Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The IDEA Lab research focuses on dependable embedded control systems particularly for unmanned aircraft and spacecraft. Some of the research in the IDEA Lab includes:

  • Dependable Embedded Systems
